Not as Bad as I Thought
Well, my concern about rebuilding all of my turnouts shouldn't be necessary. I took that 2-6-0 and ran it in the opposite direction to see where the problems were, and it showed that the point of the diverging rail was a little too close to the straight rail. I tweaked them as needed and was able to run the engine backward and forward through all of them with one exception.
That exception isn't a derail problem but a power problem. For some reason, the engines lose power on the middle turnout of a string of three number 5s. I'll need to get under the layout to see if I can fix anything. If not, I may have to rebuild one or more turnouts.
As part of my repairs going forward, I will start resoldering the track feeders. Most of them are too high and the wheel flanges hit them and jump up, potentially leading to a derail.
Meanwhile, the club I belong to locally is having its Open House on the three Saturdays starting November 30th. I'm ready for it but it leaves lots of boxes and stuff on and around the layout, interfering with work I need to do. Oh, well. Fun is important too :)
